Once the sage said, to a religious group he had been invited to speak before, "Be assured of this, the God anyone could prove or disprove is not God. This God would be the absolute object. The Supreme Being, Pure Subjectivity, is known only as It reveals Itself. You cannot discover God, you can only receive God. Yet, this God is not like any God you have been told of, this is the untold One." During the time of questions, no questions were asked. Afterward, the sage received a rather cool goodbye, he left assured he would not be invited back.

I was raised religious, believing in God. I, now, am confused on God. Is God just a concept?
The concept of God is a concept. God is not a concept. Those who have belief in the existence of God or belief that there is no God, they argue about concepts, they are both in beliefism. What is in the head is pouring out the mouth of both. Such human beings are acting ignorantly, likely with an ample dose of intellectualized pride. For example, what is potentially more arrogant than writing a book to disprove or prove the existence of the Absolute? It is sad to see humans arguing in this way. What are they trying to prove? If God is, is isness, what one says for or against amounts to nothing but tongue prattle. And arguing for or against would be treating the absolute isness as an object. How odd, theism and atheism seem to enjoy creating the other.
Then, what's this God?
What is is before is this or that?
Confusing, confusing...
Subtract everything you were taught about God or taught about there not being a God. What is left? Be assured, unlike your being confused about God, as you said, what is left can be confusing to the mind, but God is not confusing at all. In true faith, in pure knowing, there is a direct, unmediated clarity, prior to any thought of God is or is not this or that, so absolutely present. The heart knows no confusion on this, or anything, mind enters, then arises confusion. This is like having love for someone. What is such love like, before the mind enters to edit the direct immediacy of the love, the intimacy of love itself? What is such love like even before love becomes love for? Remove the "I love him or her or that," and what is left? See, I point to the same process of subtraction. We know Truth through subtraction, not addition.
Yet, how could I know this being except through thought?
We can differentiate between perception and conception. Perception is the first moment of direct seeing, or knowing. We, habitually, shift to a second moment, a moment wherein there is the formulation of the knowing into a knowing about, a conception. Thought about God, about anything, then, is not knowing, but thought about. When you realize this, you are no longer impressed with arguments for or against the existence of God. The Supreme Being can only be known as a non-thought, even as you can only be known by another or yourself as a non-thought. What persons call "God" is the ultimate Non-Thought.
Does this mean I need to drop all thoughts about God?
There are two general paths spiritually, but really one path. One is that of knowing. The other is that of devotion. Both lead to the same blessing, both welcome the other into itself, so we differentiate the paths, but they are one path.
What's this blessing?
For now, I say, and we can return to this present matter of sharing later: To know is to love, to love is to know.
